Create something useful + beautiful out of trash. Transform mistakes into a second chance. Learn this ancient + accessible analog skill, hands-on, having fun with other humans IRL. Revolutionary!
First in a series of skill shares honoring the Chicano ethos of rasquachismo, making the most with the least. CHISME CHURCH: Building Skills + Connections, One Craft + Chisme Session at a Time. Created + organized by LoVe of Mal de Ojo Co. LoVe is a queer Gen-Xicana with a long and storied history of making art, sharing skills, crafting experiences, and cultivating community wherever she roams.
A limited number of sliding scale discounts are available. Secure your spot early if you are unable to pay the full amount. The cost of the workshop helps reimburse the organizer, in turn supporting The Coalition Space’s community offerings.
The Coalition Space, 311 E. 7th St., Tucson AZ. Street parking. Indoors. Air conditioned. Accessible flat surface entrances and interior. Folding chairs seating. Nearby grocery co-op and restaurants for BYO snacks/beverages, or dining out before/after event.
All materials and tools will be provided. But you are encouraged to bring a few papers you’d like to transform. Old love letters? Divorce papers? Student loan debt? Medical bills? This workshop is open to all no matter your experience. Our hands will be getting wet with water used in the process. Bring dishwashing gloves if your skin is sensitive. Wear appropriate clothing and shoes for this activity. Feel free to bring your own coffee, beverage, or snacks for yourself or to share. This is an alcohol-free event.
This workshop is primarily intended for adults. The instruction, oversight, and safety concerns assume adult capabilities. Keeping that in mind, a child age 10+ years may attend with an adult guardian who believes them to be appropriately suited for participation in this activity. Please indicate in Note to Organizer if part of your purchase includes a child attending.
